Hello Cal Students!

My name is Vishalli Loomba and I am your 2011-2012 ASUC President! I am honored and delighted to be serving in the ASUC as we enter our 125th anniversary. This is a pivotal moment in the history of our University and as your student government, the ASUC remains committed to representing Cal's student body. As the collective voice of the students, we build student power through leadership development, and through grassroots campaigns and coalitions, we fight to hold the University, City, State and Nation accountable to student needs. I encourage you to explore our website to find ways in which you can get involved and be an active member of your student government!

Go Bears!
Vishalli Loomba

Standing Committee on Advocacy Agenda

The ASUC Advocacy Agenda for 2011-2012 states:

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the advocacy agenda committee #2 addresses the issue brief of campus safety and hate crimes.

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we aim to collaborate with the University of California Police Department and the University Health Services with the goals of promoting a more positive and safe campus climate by promoting preventive practices against all types of hate crime.

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Advocacy Agenda #3 would like to focus on internal and external educational policy. This is included but not limited to admissions policies, academic funding policies, and larger policies surrounding the impacts of budget cuts on our education and admission. We hope to meet frequently with the Academic Senate in order to continue this dialogue, and will be meeting continually to elaborate and break down these issues. Our body hopes to work extensively with the student regent to assess the impacts of budget cuts. One of our goals is to explore how budget cuts have affected admissions, and how tuition increases will impact the current and peripheral campus community. Another goal is to work with the AAVP to advocate for a more diverse campus climate, and the implications the budget cuts have had on admission policies for a diverse group of potential students.
